Automatic Shutdown After Scanning with Windows Defender

I have noticed that every time I try to scan my computer with Windows
Defender, it shuts down before the scan can finish, after about 5 minutes.
It's doesn't go through the normal shutdown process either, it just zaps off.
No idea what is going on and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mcafee's Stinger Virus Remºver

Download the three removal tools and boot into safe mode (Reboot and keep
tapping F8 then choose safe mode from the list) Once in safe mode run all the
scanners and let remove anything fºund.

Also on safe mode do a scan with Windows Defender.

I hope this post is helpful, but we would highly appreciate it if you could

Defender would periodically automatically start a scan utilizing almost all
of my intel 2.0 ghz cpu processing ability and cause the fan to rev up and
then cause a shutdown. I have removed Defender to solve the problem.
