Does anyone know how to disable the apipa setting in
WinXP home.

In windows 2k, the reg hack is to insert the DWORD value
IPAutoConfigurationEnabled decimal value "0" in the
followng key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip
\Parameters\Interfaces Adapter subkey. CF KB article
220874

However, this does not appear to work in XP.

I'd appreciate any help that anyone might have.

Thanks,

hello,
I think we can not disable the APIPA. if you are
getting ip address from APIPA it means that there is no
DHCP Server running in the network. if you have the DHCP
server then type the following command at dos prompt
ipconfig/renew
then check the ip address. even now if the ip address is
from APIPA then definetely the problem is with DHCP
server.
if you dont have any DHCP server then you just give
a static ip address. i think it will work.
