Autoexec.nt is corrupt

I recently downloaded a program that corrupted the AUTOEXEC.NT file in my
windows\system32 directory. I downloaded this file in an attemp to fix it,
but no 16 bit programs want to work. i get the error message

"System Error"
"The Win16 Sybsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode, DOS.EXE must be in
your AUTOEXEC.NT and present in your PATH"

what does this mean?
please email me your CONFIG.NT and AUTOEXEC.NT files from your
Windows\System32 directory and only if you have XP pls.
My email is 'karel.s(((())))@webmail.co.za' <remove the '(((())))'>
Thanx

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program

Also can be caused by a Trojan installing a file windupdater.exe and
creating registry entries for that file.

AVAST (free antivirus software) can be the cause if SP2 is installed:

Add:

Once the cause is found, you can restore the reserve, default file by
copying it from windows\repair to windows\system32. This is easier than
making it from scratch as suggested in the KB article. If the trojan is
not cleared, it will probably damage the file again at the next boot

Thanks I normally add that information. This time I missed it when I
copied from my file of standard responses.
