I have XP PRo

When I tried to install program from a disc, I have a
message

The Win16 Subsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode,
DOSX.EXE must be in your AUTOEXEC.NT and present in your
PATH.

I checked Autoexec.nt and config.nt
then i expanded from XP disc all following

Autoexec.nt
config.nt
himem.sys
dosx.exe

and copy them in system32 (replace the old ones)

still have this message. How can i fix this problem?
I don't want to reainstall.
