ATTN: MSFT and MVP's. Hardware detection issue

Pre-SP2 Windows would decect my Canon DV Camcorder and install the
drivers as soon as it was connected. Post-SP2's installation it no
longer even detects the hardware, not even via the Add New Hardware
Wizard. I tried then Scanner and Camera Wizard, but it wasn't listed
there. Canon never supplied me with a driver CD as it was always as
simple as just plugging it in.

Any suggestions?

Um, I don't have a solution but I do have a question. Is it a USB
device? If so, do other USB devices work? Have you tried the Camcorder
on someone else's computer?

Cheers,

A bit of research turned up this:

It seems it doesn't apply to SP1 for some reason.

Cheers,

Thanks Cliff, but that's not the issue. The camcorder has it's own
power source, and it displays "DV IN" on the screen when it knows
there's a computer on the other end of the cable, and that's there. Oh,
and it's Firewire. If I mised that in the first post, sorry. Firewire.
Firewire Firewire. XD

Try opening Control Panel - System - Device Manager and removing all
of the entries for Firewire devices and controllers. Also remove
anything in the "Other devices" category.

Shut down and restart the computer. It should automatically redetect
and reinstall the Firewire devices.

Note: If this does not work when running in Normal mode try rebooting
and starting up in Safe Mode then go into Device Manager and delete
these items. You might also find that some additional devices are
listed in Safe Mode that are not shown in Device Manager in normal
mode.

Good luck
