Attempting to paste a screenshot

D

David

Greetings,
I have been having trouble pasting screenshots of other Microsoft
programs into Powerpoint slides. For example, I am trying to paste a
screenshot of Excel. I capture the screenshot with Ctrl+Alt+ Print Scrn then
when I try to paste it into a blank Powerpoint slide nothing happens. No
image... no error message... nothing. I have a found a work around by first
pasting the image into Word then copying and pasting the image from Word into
Powerpoint but I would like to do it directly if I can. Is there any reason
why this shouldn't work? What am I doing wrong? I use Powerpoint 2002 SP3.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Dear David,

On my PC, I just need to hit PrtScn to copy. I think on a laptop it's the
same or Fn+PrtScn.

As an option try using SnagIt -- it give you more options and higher quality
when copying/pasting screen grabs.

Thanks for the tip Sandy but I'm fairly certain that the copying isn't the
issue just the pasting. This is because the screen prints paste easily into
Word but not Powerpoint. When I right click on my blank slide paste is not
greyed out and is available. It just dosen't do anything when I try to use
it.

FWIW, on my system, PrtScn copies the whole screen into PowerPoint.
Alt+PrtScn copies the window into PowerPoint Ctrl+Alt+PrtScn does nothing in
PowerPoint but other programs (Paint for example) allow pasting a window the
same as Alt+PrtScn.

Fairly certain isn't the same as certain.

I agree with your logic but it'll only cost you a couple of seconds to BE
certain.

The usual keystroke is Alt+PrintScreen to grab the current window.

Why not try it? Then you'll know.

Hmm... This must just be me then. I've tried Alt+PrntScr as was suggested
with no change. I am still able to paste into Word but not into Powerpoint.
Again, I only get this problem when I try to capture a screenprint of
Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, IE, ect...) and paste it into Powerpoint.
Thakns to everyone for their suggestions so far.

I have tried both of those pasting options and neither have worked. I have
been able to paste other things into Powerpoint, just not screenshots of
microsoft programs... sort of. For example, if I type some text into word
and use Alt+ Print Scrn to capture the screenshot I will not be able to paste
it directly into PP (I can paste it into Word first then copy/paste that
image into PP). However, if I click the Save As button I can copy and paste
a screen shot of the Save As window (and others like it) directly into PP.
I'm not sure if I have any add ons that are responsible for this. I wouldn't
even know how to check.
