Attachments in message body?

Why are attachments that I send and receive opening in the message body of
emails. When I receive an email with several photo's or other material as
attachments they are opening in the message body of the email and they are
very large. I have had my computer lock up during the receiving and when I
try to open one of the attachments. Computer will not free up. I have to shut
down the computer with the off button and this is not good. I have talked to
friends that I have sent photo's to and sent them to myself just to see and
they are very disgusted with this. Can't seem to find any settings to stop
this.
I am running on an E Machine-Vista Home Premium with a 62 x 2 Processor
4400+: 15 in 1 Memory Card Reader: 250G HD: 1024MB DDR2

I believe most email clients including Windows Mail will show any
attached JPGs at the bottom of the text. I don't know of any way to
stop that. The sender would have to zip the photos before attaching.

As in Outlook Express before it, Windows Mail will display some graphic
attachments in a separate section underneath the message body as a
convenience to the user. If you enable the "Read all messages in plain
text" option, these attachments will not display.

PS: Ask your correspondents to drastically reduce the size of such graphic
files before attaching them, or put all of them in a ZIP file & attach that.
