Our A7V600 VIA KT600 motherboard has a Gig of RAM, but sometimes the PC
only reports 256 MB, both in the BIOS and in Windows. The BIOS is the
latest version.

Anyone come across this before?

Unplug system, remove modules, inspect memory slots and
modules, reinstall modules.

We've done that. Next step is, we're going to clean the gold connectors
with an eraser.

Gold doesn't tarnish, but can get gup coated. It is also very
thin, and easily removed with an eraser. Solvents are preferable.
You just want to be sure they don't leave a residue.

If you have removed and reseated them, and this has made no difference, then
you are most likely barking up the wrong tree.

If the sticks are good then the memory controller on the MB most likely has
problems.

No advice for that problem.
