Saturday night decided to spend it in

I've put in my new motherboard JUST THE BOARD and A PSU

that is just TWO THINGS okay Asus P5E3 and this Tagan 500W PSU that def works....

I've put in the power pins I am sure they are right...
also put the bit ATX power into the board and the additional 12v connector

then run a power lead into the wall and NOTHING

don't even give me no lights

have boards changed or something since socket A?

or am I missing something? Please help

(thought I would try power up board and check the internal speaker/ light of board without gfx/mem or cpu, I know strange)

does the board have an LED that indicates there is power?

Edit: well thats good news

if there is no CPU then nothing is going to happen

Okay still getting green light but when I push the power button I get a blue light near the power button but then after 2 seconds that light turns off.

I don't think the PSU has even spun yet
okay I hope that these socket 775 boards dont power on properly until you got certain parts installed....
anyone can you confirm my theory?

okay no beep without a CPU and MEMORY
I'm sure I should hear something!?

*(at this point I feel scared to try that on a working machine)

Pretty sure it won't beep if you don't have a cpu in as the BIOS can't even start, so with no BIOS no POST.

what about the troublesome beeps?

one beep means POST is succesful

one beep followed by two short = mem

two short beeps = CPU

(the last two are just examples)

But I can't remember if you would get a beep without CPU and MEM.
errrr i'll have to wait until I get the memory now at the v least

And there was I thinking PSD99 sort of half way knew what he was doing

No CPU, memory and vid card - you'll get bugger all on boot.

Wake up.

haha okay I can take the positives out of this when I had the GFX installed the system turned on and stayed on.
I saw a blue power light on the front and I saw a green light on the Asus board.

I blame my memory on a very strange week. I didn't sleep much at night time yet I never really felt tired. I forgot a few things this week too, something that I normally don't do.

Right as for the board, I am going to get the memory this week and a proper PSU.

So do you consider my little test a success?
