Applying updates

Ben Shulman

I want to apply the update identified as Q827667, to
resolve a problem with javascript functions. However, I
get a message saying that IE 6 SP1 is required. I do have
that; in fact, if I try to install SP1, I get a message
saying a later version is already installed. I am stuck in
Catch-22 here. Can anyone help?

Try this fix.

Some Web Site Services Do Not Work After You Upgrade to Internet Explorer 6
Some Web site services may not work properly after you upgrade to any of the
versions of Internet Explorer listed at the beginning of this article. The
Web site may suggest that you need to enable cookies or upgrade your browser
to one that supports Java, frames, or other technology that is supported by
Internet Explorer 6.
For example, when you attempt to log on to, or use, a secure banking Web
site, you may be prompted to upgrade to a compatible browser or a different
version of the same browser.

Most likely you don't need it.
That is a relatively old patch which was (as the article mentions)
superseded by 824145 for the MS03-048 cumulative update.
That in turn has been superseded by other cumulative updates.

Check your version of mshtml.dll. I suspect you will find that
is is greater than 6.0.2800.1269.
