Application I can not delete

In error I have downloaded a programme from a website
that has placed a new application on my computer and icon
on my desktop and I can not delete it!
When trying to delete the icon I get the message "Cannot
delete ..name...: Access is denied"
When trying to use the uninstall programme utility I get
the message "An error occured while trying to
remove ...name... It may already have been uninstalled"
Adaware has found a new registry key that keep deleting,
but it keeps reappearing.
Can anyone help me to get rid of this thing!!!

what you need to do is to first shutdown the application (.exe, .dll) before
you can delete it or remove it from your system. best way to accomplish this
is to bring up task manager (your best buddy) note the .exe or .dll filename
and directory when you tried to delete and it error out. use task manager to
run command prompt. now in cmd window, navigate to directory where the file
you wanted to remove is located. use task manager to kill explorer.exe then
switch to cmd prompt, delete the file. when that's done you can start
explorer.exe from task manager again to restore your desktop.
