Anyway to stop video screen resize on new driver install ?

One thing that is mildly annoying about the way ATI does it's driver install
is that on reboot, after installing the driver it automatically re-sizes my
desktop to the maximum supported size of my montior, along with re-ordering
my desktop icons.

I have another system with a nvidia card in it and it never re-orders my
icons, even though it always comes up under the default of 800x640.

So I have to wonder if there is a setting in the ATI drivers that says
re-order icons or something, or at least is there a setting I can set before
I reboot that will make it come back up under 1024x768 ?

I've looked in the key name and the only entry I see with ay options is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Install, but nothing jumps out
at me as to what to install.

Currently I have the X1900XTX, but this was alway a pain with the X800XT.
Any thing I can do about this, or is it just life with ATI ?

The driver default settings are probably catered to LCD screens, where the
screen's native resolution is also the highest resolution. Love it or hate
it, LCDs account for the majority of monitors sold today.

Personally I don't consider this an inconvenience, since I run with large
fonts and need an additional reboot anyway. If you manually arrange desktop
icons, I can see it being a hassle.

If available (OS not indicated) and you usually log on as a user, log
on as administrator for the driver replacement. Then log off and back
on as the user. I have experienced the icon shifting during driver
updating, but for some reason this did not occur anyway for the last
couple of updates.

Thanks Scott, Didn't think about using that method. I'll give it a try when
the 6.7 drivers are released.
