Anyone know how to disable Norton Anti-Virus?

Does anyone know how to disable Norton Anti-Virus in the Norton System
Works Suite? We're operating with WinXP

I need to load another security software that says that it is not
compatible with Norton or McAfee, but I still want to be able to use
Norton Utilities.

The above link was found by simply using Google to search for "disable
norton antivirus". Just a side note for you about Norton while there is
still time. It's my opinion that Norton Utilities, Norton Security Suite
and Norton Anti-Virus generally cause more problems than they are worth.
This is supported by the numerous posts to newsgroups complaining of the
same thing.

You don't have to pay for quality security software.

is happening tonight as we're trying to leave on a 4-5 month RV trip
to Alaska and both my son and daughter's virus protection subscription
runs out next week. I'm trying to download software than my ISP (Cox)
provides for free.

In you intend to install another anti-virus program that is not compatible
with Norton Anti-Virus {most anti-virus programs can have compatibility
problems}, then you need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus. Disable of Norton
Auto-Protect just disables the background scan for virus. Incompabile
problems of multiple anti-virus programs is more than just background
scanning.

Quite frankly, you're contemplating disabling the only part of Norton
SystemWorks that makes the product worth having on your computer, not
that there aren't antivirus applications out there that aren't just as
good, if not better than NAV.

Once a useful utility suite, back in the days of MS-DOS, when Peter
Norton was more than just a picture on the box, Norton Utilities have
been becoming increasingly useless and redundant over the years.
There's little offered by NU that WinXP cannot already do natively. And
some of Systemworks's features, like CrashGuard and CleanSweep (if
they're still included) cause far more problems then they prevent.

If you've another security solution that you prefer, I'd recommend
removing the Symantec product entirely.

Re-run the the Norton SystemWorks setup and un-install AV.
