Any XP/Modem Wizards in here?

My XP system will only let me connect once per session! If I disconnect or
get disconnected by my ISP (BT) I have to reboot my machine as I get
Error=692 There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting
device). The modem works ok after reboot.

I have checked out the modem itself by using Hyper Terminal to connect and
disconnect during one session without re-boot.

A family laptop (XP) has no problems disconnecting & reconnecting during one
session without reboot so I am at a loss why my XP machine will not?
The modem is a PC Tel HSP56 MR (internal)
Any help would be appreciated!
