Antispy

Hi. When I load MSAntispy the system summary highlights
that only 1 of 3 Real Time Protection sytems are active.
When I check in the Real Time Protection section the
status says all three are active. However, when I click
into Internet Agents the status is inactive and when I
try and activate it doesn't work. System Agents and
Application Agents state they are in-active and have the
option to deactivate. When I try to either activate or
deactivate none of the different Agents react. Any idea
what the problem is?

1) What antivirus or security software is running on your machine?
2) In the folder where Microsoft Antispyware is installed, there is a
file--errors.log. If you glance through this file, do you see error
messages referring to specific files as not being registered? Please don't
post the whole file here, but see if you have specific entries for files
which don't register correctly--post those lines if you want.

1. I am running Norton System Works at the moment.
2. this message gets repeated - probably where I was
trying to enable.

This is the only error message that I can see here.

Thanks.

Most users of some versions of Norton Systemworks--2005 for sure, perhaps
others, seem to experience this symptom.

Microsoft is aware of the issue and is actively investigating, but I don't
have a workaround.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know if my installed Antispy is working correctly
or not as a result of this error?

I think it likely that some or all of the real-time protection checkpoints
are not functional, but I don't have a way of determining precisely what
that means--I haven't seen this first hand, and I'm not sure what I could
usefully say about it even if I had.

I believe that scanning and removal should still be fully functional.

Nick, I had exactly the same symptoms that you have. I created a
precautionary restore point and then installed the service pack found at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...61-7a9c-43e7-9117-f673077ffb3c&DisplayLang=en
this restored MAS on my computer to full functionality. It appears that the
current build of MAS needs to have this update present.

See other posts on this in the announcements group headed "missing
checkpoints"

Richard.

I'd be interested to hear the result, if any of this suggestion. I've
wondered whether this might be worth trying--I hope we'll find out!
