anti virus config

i've been using outlook for a while...have the 2003 professional. i've also
had norton/symantec anti-virus corporate 8.1. well i recently tried to
install the 9.0 version of norton's but now every time i open outlook i get
the following error message: The add-in “C:\Program
Files\Symantec_Client_Security\Symantec Antivirus…†could not be installed or
downloaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the
Help menu. I've uninstalled the the anti-virus and reinstalled it, but
still getting that error. how can i reconfigure it??

Did you try help | detect & repair as the error message suggested?

i did try that. now i can't even unistall norton's....if i try to
reinstall and repair or modify and then reboot, norton's tells me
that auto-protect can't be enabled. i have no idea what i've done,
but it's getting frustrating b/c i don't want to get a virus
accidentally.

As opposed to getting one on purpose? ;-)

What service pack are you on for Outlook/Office? (help | about in Outlook)
For Outlook - try removing the add-in in tools, options, other, advanced
button - addins/com add-ins. Then see if you can reinstall Norton....also
check Symantec's website for updates.
Note that although I like enabling mail scanning (more protection=better),
as long as you keep your Norton updated, and are careful about attachments
(don't open 'em unless you're expecting 'em, no matter who from), you're
probably OK without the mailscanning features....
