Annoying sound when I open IE

open IE (v. 6) and go to my home page, Boston.com
makes an annoying sound, go to other pages, and when I hit
back button, makes same annoying sound (don't want to
disable sounds in Internet Options, Advanced, because I do
want sounds to play, just not this one - i would be happy
to change it to something else, but this never used to
happen at all (virus??)

Yes something has changed your sounds... so you may want to check for
spy-ware or ad-ware.

You can easily change the sounds for Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer
in the Sounds and Multimedia control panel.
Select Start=>Settings=>Control Panel=>Sounds and Multimedia

Scroll down the list and you should see sections for Windows Explorer and
Internet Explorer with sounds for 'Open program', 'Complete Navigation' and
'Start Navigation'
