An unknown error has occurred.

Save it to the Desktop first and then copy it to the memory stick. I think
there is a permissions issue when going directly to the stick.

You can try removing your mail account and closing and opening WinMail and
then see if you can delete the message from the outbox. (there is no "real"
message corresponding to it as a file, but rather its database discrepancy).
That works for some, but not for others.

You can also try my Windows Mail Utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/) and try
compacting and repairing the database. If that doesn't work, then move
everything out of the current Windows Mail directory to another directory
and then start WinMail and it will be reset.

is there a solution, microsoft please answer??????

EUREKA!

I Have the answer. It is so simple. Just search the net and find a free
Eudora download. Set it up and try to transfer your messages and address
book. I say try, because Eudora has yet to recognise Windows mail format. But
if you are like me, you will still have the old Outlook Express files hanging
around and Eudora has no problem with them.
I fail to see why Microsoft, in its wisdom, can release this garbage on
unsuspecting customers and then expect the customers to sort out a fix among
themselves.
I am newby, only having suffered these repeated shortfalls in performance
for ten days, but I see some of you have been around for months.
Good luck guys. I am about to take the re-format hard drive road.Linux next
I think.

You may have noticed, that I am a very unhappy Vista customer.

C'mon Microsoft get this problem sorted!

Don't assume that your issue is identical to someone else's
issue. Post an exact description of what is wrong, complete
with a copy of the error message.

Gayle,

I and several other people have had the same problem. Go to

www.oehelp.com/wmutil

and download Steve's utility (follow Steve's directions to save to your
desktop). Then use the utility (after unzipping) to compact your e-mail and
the problem will go away. Then, in the future, compact your e-mail every
time the dialog box appears asking if you want to compact your e-mail.

Good luck.

I am totally fed up with winmail. I now have items in my inbox, junkmail,
deleted folder, spamfighter folder which I cannot delete, I have tried
everything and just feel that winmail is not what I was led to believe would
be the successor to outlook express.
Anyone got any ideas before I totally crack up????? PLEASE!!!

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.
