Hello World !

My computer and OS :
PIV 4 GHz / 2 Gb RAM / 2 HD (IDE) 80 Gb
XP PRO SP2

I have installed the last version of Defender Beta2 :
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1186.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1288.5

I can't scan all my partitons (or in part), because near 32700 objects, I receive this error message :

The file after this error happens is not always the same, BUT I remark that the number is ALWAYS near 32768 !
(2^15). Is it a coincidence ?
(overflow in 16 bits signed variable ?)

Thank You for any information ...

Right-click My Computer, and choose Manage. Click on Disk Manager. In the
right pane, is the partition type for the drive that contains the C: volume
"basic" or "dynamic"?

If it is dynamic, this error is a known bug, which is scheduled to be fixed
in a future update which will come in automatically as other updates do.

If it is a basic partition, other users with this error have found that
running a chkdsk scan on the partition has eliminated this error.

I can't predict when the update fixing this error will be available.

Windows Defender will continue to update properly, and Real-time protection
is fully effective, but scanning will not complete until this bug is fixed.

All my partitions are basic.

First time, the error happend during "I:" partition scanning.
After that, I added "I:" in list "Do not scan ...."
And now the error happend after HKLM\Software\ORL scanning !!!
It's completly random ... :-(

I hope that CHKDSK will be efficient...

Thank You ...

Let me know whether CHKDSK finds any errors, and whether that clears the
scan problem. I'd like to either have confirmation that this helps, or
feedback that the problem that creates this error message still exists even
on apparently healthy basic partitions.

Hi, I get this error as well.

I'm XP Pro SP2 with all the latest windows update patches.

Dynamic Disk which chkdsk says is clean. Any ideas what else I can try?

Chris--this error is "expected" due to a bug, on dynamic disks. It isn't
expected on basic disks.

Last I heard, they hope to get the fix out for this issue on dynamic disks
very soon, but I don't believe it is in the most recent update of last night
or so.

I'm experiencing the same problem on both of my dynamic volumes. I've also
recieved the same error on my Server 2003 test box running Symantec/Veritas
Storage Foundation, even though it is using simple disks—not dynamic volumes.

I'm looking forward to an update soon; hopefully they will address this
issue quickly, especially with the amount of powerusers that utilize dynamic
volumes.

I launched a CHKDSK /R /P on ALL partitions
(only static - no dynamic volume)
No error detected by CHKDSK

BUT, after this checking, ... ALWAYS this #!?§%$* error "0x8050800c" !

If you are getting this on basic disks, I'd recommend running a chkdsk.
That's not so quick and easy on a server, but that's my current reading of
the situation.

If scheduling the probably needed restart and chkdsk time isn't easy to do,
you may want to wait a bit--they do hope to get this fix out soon, I
believe.

OK--thanks for adding to my data, and sorry that didn't work.

I don't know what the cause of this error may be if neither dynamic disks
nor errors correctable via Chkcsk are involved.
