All Text Cannot Be Seen In Dialog Boxes.

I have uploaded another sniplet that may be a clue to the problem.
Please have a look at my "DPI Scaling" dialog box and notice how the
selection for "default size of text" has a line thru it:

Maybe just wishful thinking, but perhaps it might lead to the answer to
this problem.

Thanks again.

Nancy
Well, the line through that DPI setting certainly gives us something
else to check out. Have you tried using the 120 DPI option, which
requires a reboot to put in place after you select it? The button at
the bottom right of the box is for a Custom DPI setting. Try going
there and see what might be available. You should see a scale that says
9 point Segoe UI set at 96 pixels per inch, unless you changed it.
Below that is a check box for using Windows XP style DPI scaling.

But since I know you are getting bored ;-) perhaps you could do
something else. In your Windows\System32 folder there are 3 files.
Could you check yours and post the Version, dates, and size of the
files? This is just a total stab in the dark.

comdlg32.dll
comdlg32.ocx
commdlg.dll

Are you sure you haven't used some third party software to change your
text sizes? Is you install a XP upgrade or a clean install.

IT WORKED!!!!!

Thank you so much!!

I ran the "System File Checker" as Dave explained and read the
log file afterwards. It had only replaced some fonts that I had
deleted so I was disappointed thinking that it was not the
solution and did not bother restarting my PC.
Then I read Clark's post which showed another forum member with
the same problem as me and had the solution here:
http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/65014-vista-fonts.html
System file checker did fix the problem by restoring that missing
font.
So thanks Clark & Dave. You guys are the best!

Nancy

PS - Your names sound like explores from history.

Glad you got it fixed, but could you verify you were missing the Segoe
font, the Segoe UI in particular. It would be a much easier fix if all
that was required was to reinstall one specific font.

I had deleted the whole Segoe font family so that probably was
the one specific font needed. There were only a couple other type
fonts that were restored. I deleted the log file. It was almost
23 MBs!!
Although I would bet on the Segoe UI being the needed font for
the fix.

Thanks again!

Quoting from your first post :

"I should point out that my Sister and a couple of friends have
the exact same problem."

So who deleted their Segoe UI fonts ?
-------------------------------------------
I think I misunderstood them when they all have the "Spybot
Search and Destroy" dialog box that was not viewable. Silly me
just assumed that it was the same problem. I asked my Sister and
she confirmed that Spybot S & D was her only viewing problem. So
I am the only idiot that deleted the font.
I am a power user and turn off all unnecessary services, no
screen saver, stop all programs that startup with Windows.... no
calendars, no sidebar, no visual effects (like shadows on icons)
etc. When I saw how many fonts Vista had, I immediately deleted
lots of them .... thinking at the time that they were not system
fonts.
Well, live and learn.

Nancy,
I have exactly the same problem as you. Neither your monitor display
resolution nor Vista font size has anything to do with this issue. It
only seems to be certain Vista "system" dialog boxes that have the
problem.

My Personalize: Sounds and Screen Saver Dialog Boxes are exactly as you
describe. The majority of the dialog boxes are OK and the rest of
Vista's font sizes are just as they are suppose to be. I don't know how
to get a screen copy the image of the dialog box so they can see exatly
what it looks like.

There are no scroll bars; the font is so large that the dialog box
border cuts off the right and bottom sections of the text and buttons.

Did you notice that, with the help of other posters in this thread, Nancy
solved her problem over a month ago?

Thanks for the reply Gene, I was looking at this thread in reverse
chronology since the theads all started to state the posts were 4 weeks
ago.
As a suggestion, you could ask posters not to quote the previous post,
it's totally redundant unless they are referering to posts further back.
Also makes the thread rediculously long and more difficult to find the
response.

System File Checker didn't work for me and left me in test mode(?). I
did a system restore and then manually installed the Segoe UI fonts.
Every thing looks OK so far.

Are all fonts listed in the Add Fonts dialog box normally installed
when Vista is installed?

Warren

You *won't* find me asking posters not to quote the post they are replying
to. Especially people who post from vBulletin USENET gateway, which more
often than not orphans the threads...

Many people will have no idea what you're talking about above, including
me. And I'm not going to ask them to go surfing through a thread to find
out. That's at best discourteous. I won't say what it is at worst, but it
isn't good.
