Text and Buttons in Dialog Boxes Don't Fit Properly.

The text and buttons in dialog boxes seem to be too large and don't fit
properly. The words are cut off and I can only see part of the message
inside the dialog box. I searched through Microsft Windows help and support
and it said that my iu locale may not me set properly, but that was all the
info I could find. I'm not suer what my iu locale is or how to cahnge it if
it is set incorrectly. Any help in this matter would be freatly appreciated.

Display Properties -> 'Settings' tab -> 'Advanced'

Is your DPI setting at 96?

Yes it is. Should I change it?

This problem is one I've experienced too.

It is a function of the DPI.

When my DPI was set at 175 it was severe.

I backed off to a DPI of 150 and things are now manageable.

I like to sit well back from the screen -- in a comfortable chair.

My font size in Display Properties -> 'Appearance' tab is 'Large'.

Good Luck & Aloha,

No, that's standard. Larger values can produce the behavior you describe.

:

Right click the Desktop.
Click Properties > Appearance tab > Advanced button.
Click the Item dropdown and select an item or click on an object in the
upper pane to see/edit it's settings.

Hello jmowrey,

It's about font size in Windows.

Sometimes, on poorely written forms, larger fonts don't display correctly.
Making systemfonts smaller will do. But, every time you change size of fonts
in display advanced properties,
windows will ask for Windows CD.

I have that problem with AHEAD INCD! The entire line of window witzh "start
operation" button is missing
(on resolution 1280x1024 wirh large fonts and 120% fonts).
It's such a pain in the ass!

Yep...

I've had precisely the same problem.

I've experimented with changes in Font Sizes on a continuing basis.

Fortunately, in each and every case, Windows XP tells me the fonts are
already on my hard disk and would I prefer to use them or insert the Windows
XP disc.

Naturally, I say "Use the ones on the hard disk" and the font change is
Quick & Easy. I do have the XP disc, if required.

I'm currently using fonts that are 150% of normal size, as I sit well back
from the monitor.

But I have experimented with all sorts of options -- from Normal [96 DPI] up
to 200% of Normal with many variations.

ClearType Tuning has also been a Godsend.
