Adware and Spyware

I have a new toolbar 'portalsearch.com' that I cannot
remove or delete and it is somehow creating desktop icons
to x-rated sites that continue to 'popup' at any given
time. How do I delete (and kill) this vulgar tool bar and
or adware/spyware that is on my Windows ME desktop?
None of the removal software companies seem to be
legitamate Help Please

Head over to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and download the free personal copy
of Ad-aware. It is very good and will show you the details of what you
should get rid of. Pretty much everything it shows me I delete aside from
the cookies.

Go to http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download and run SpyBot Search & Destroy or Lavasoft's Ad-aware.
Install, *update* the application and run a scan, post back with
your findings. Run frequently, just like you would your pre-installed
anti-virus scanner.

If no joy, run "Hijack This" - info and download at above URL.
