Admin issues trying to install software

I hope some of you can help me as DELL could not after 3
phone calls and 4 hours on the phone with them .... they
were not helpful at all.

Here is the problem - I am getting an error 1303 that
says: Uses does not have administrator rights to install
a program on Windows XP Pro.

Oh, by the way yes I have installed many other programs
with no issue, and yes I have all the service packs and
patches thru windows update.

I am trying to update Acrobat version 5 to 6 - I also
tried uninstalling 5 and installing 6 with same error.
The funny thing is, I can not also install Office 2003
over Office XP on this computer it fails. These two
programs ( Acrobat 5 and Office XP) were originally
installed thru Dell when the PC was purchased.

I have checked to see if I am indeed a Admin and I am.
also I have rebooted and gone in thru safe mode and
cannot install these programs in safe mode " Not allowed
Microsoft message".

So how do I resolve the issue of not having the right
access to install the programs. I can however install
other programs with no problem. This is my wifes computer
and she is driving me nuts to no end. So I really could
use some help. Uninstalling Office XP is out of the
question unless I can save all her settings and email in
outlook.

But I did uninstall Acrobat and trying to install caused
this message - so uninstalling prob is not the answer.

Ok, now what do you guys have to say: I'm all ears.
I reinstalled XP Pro incase someone suggest it.

Yes, I am a admin and user group shows this and groups
were added along with users to policy.
No software policy by Dell showing..

To the other question is there a tool to reset file and
system attributes, Account policies to initial install
like the old Win98 had ?

I am trying to update Acrobat version 5 to 6 - I also

I know that AR6 is checking for specific software before it allow to install
itself.

I think it looks for Internet Explorer 6 before it will install, bad for
people with

Win98+IE5 or IE5.5

Your XP has it so I'm not sure what's causing the problem.

Did you try logging in as local admin?

Unfortunatly XP does not have the following:

In Windows NT Explorer, select the folder.
Right-click the folder, and then click Properties on the
shortcut menu.
On the Security tab, click Permissions.
Select the Everyone group, and then click Full Control in
the Type of Access list.
Select the Replace Permissions on Subdirectories check
box.
Click OK.
Click Yes to the prompt confirming whether you want to
replace permissions on all subdirectories.
Click OK in the folder name Properties dialog box (where
folder name is the name of the folder that you selected
in step 1).
Run Office Setup.

So how is this accomplished in XP ?
