Frank - thanks for the suggestion re: the registry settings.
The weird thing about this problem is that it comes and goes. When I
have been surfing on IE for more than 5 - 10 mins, it seems that IE
loses the autocomplete capability and I have to reboot to restore this
feature. The autocomplete option still exists on IE, so it appears as
though something is attacking the registries each time I run IE and
then rebooting the PC restores its original settings.
This is quite frustrating! I did a virus scan and ran spybot to see if
there's anything nasty on my PC causing this to happen - it appears
clean. It is possible that a pop-up is causing this (that seems to be
the only consistent thing that happens - I visit a site that initiates
a pop-up and WHOOPS there goes my IE settings). Is it possible
something in IE is simply corrupted and I need to patch it/re-install
it? Can you re-install IE without having to re-install Windows? Not
quite sure how that works.
Thanks again,
Paula
Hey,
Wondering if anyone can help me. I used to be able to type any website
into my address bar as follows, and press enter or GO button:
www.google.com
Now I have a problem. In order to press enter or click the GO button
and have the website brought up, I must type the website as follows:
http://www.google.com
So, now I have to include the HTTP:// or select the website from a list
of history (that always has
HTTP://, so it works).
I haven't changed any settings - all I've done is deleted history/temp.
internet files. Did I maybe delete an option somehow by mistake - or
does this sound like a virus?
Thanks!
Paula
Check the below Registry entries vs. yours:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"

Also,
Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the
noted

"Append Completion"="yes"
also see the following values:
"Use AutoComplete"="yes"

Click Start | Run and type
control inetcpl.cpl
Select Content tab, and click AutoComplete button
In the Use AutoComplete for section, put a checkmark near Web addresses
Click OK, OK to close the dialog.

You may have to Restart the computer.
