Strange URL problem

When typing in URLs to the address bar, using 'http://' at the start allows
me to use them normally, but only typing www.google.com for example, means
the 'Go>' button does not respond, and pressing enter does nothing. Latest
patch installed. Any ideas? Just suddenly did it after a restart (used
Spybot just before)

From Mike Burgess.

Verify the following entries are correct in the Registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

Thank you for your fast reply! Both of those entries have all of the keys
present and correct. I am running out of clues...
