I have a compac proliant 1850R. It is a PIII 550. I want
to add the second CPU. My question is do I have to
re-install Windows 2000 server for it to reconize the
second CPU. Thanks so much..

Nope, in Device manager find the listing that says "Uniprocessor PC"
or something like that. Bring up the properties and select the driver
tab. Then just select to change the driver, select to pick from a
list and select "Multiprocessor PC" from the list. Re-boot and you
should be good to go...

First of all both CPU must be identical, and the HAL
(hardware abstraction layer) must be updated to use the
additional CPU.

Control Panel, Double click system icon and select the
hardware tab.

Click on device manager button, expand the computer item
and make note of the current CPU support.

Double click the the computer type and select the drivers
table.

Click the update driver button and then click next to
close the welcome screen.

Select display list of known drivers for this device and
click on show all hardware of this device class.

Click next and then finish.
