add/remove programs

Hello Group,

I cannot remove a program thats listed through the add/remove function. It
continues to tell me that the file is in use. I'm almost positive it is
not. I don't even know for sure what it is. I believe its some sort of
screesaver/background picture that was downloaded some time ago.
Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure its not running. How can I remove it?

1. Check your computer for malware with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware.
Installing screensavers is a great way to pick up infections (freeze.com and
screensavers.com I'm looking at *you*).

http://www.malwarebytes.org

2. If MBAM doesn't find anything (your computer is clean), you can try
uninstalling the program in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode, repeatedly tap
the F8 key as the computer is starting up. Use your arrow key to select Safe
Mode and then press Enter. After Windows loads, press the OK button when
Windows cleverly lets you know you're in Safe Mode (no duh). Then go to
Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and try to uninstall it.

3. If the computer is malware-free but you can't uninstall the screensaver
in Safe Mode (if it uses Windows Installer you won't be able to), then go
back to Regular Mode by rebooting the computer.

In Regular Mode, navigate to the screensaver's folder in C:\Program Files.
Look for an uninstaller. It will usually be called something like
uinstall.exe or the like. Make a note of it. Now start Task Manager (Ctrl-
Alt-Del or right-click on an empty area of the Taskbar). Under the processes
tab, find explorer.exe and press the End Task button. Don't be alarmed when
your Taskbar and icons disappears. Now from the Applications tab in Task
Manager press the New Task button. You can either browse to the
uninstaller's location or type it in. Example: C:\Program
Files\Screensaver\uinstall.exe. Hit OK and the uninstaller will run.

4. If that doesn't work, you can use the free Revo Uninstaller. Be *very*
careful using Revo Uninstaller. It's a great program but you can delete the
wrong thing in the registry and hose your Windows system.

That's another thing...I can't even find its folder on my machine. The add
remove program box is the only place I see it. But when I try to remove it,
I get the message saying its in use. Also, there is no file size listed
either.

If the only thing that's bothering you about this program is that it's
listed in Add/Remove programs, the remove it from the listing using
CCleaner.

Find that option under Tooks/Uninstall.
