Add/Remove Programs:

While trying to install my DVD/RW Drive I noticed the following on my
Add/Remove Programs and wonder what these are for and can I delete
them?

Confidence Online for Web Applications
ewido anti-malware
Mozilla Firefox
Pro200WL
Public Messenger 2.03
Shockwave
SpywareBlaster v3.51
and I have (3) versions of Window's Live Messenger, all of them
different sizes, e.g. 31.07mb, 27.54mb, and 111.00mb

I'm running IE ver 7.0 on XP and have AVG, Comodo, Spybot and A-
squared.

I would appreciate any help/comments.

Very popular open-source web browser. You may be using this to access
web sites.

Shockwave

A tool for animating web sites. It's very likely that some web pages
you visit use this. If you haven't hit any yet, you surely will. Flash
is a cousin of Shockwave.

SpywareBlaster v3.51

Not familiar with it, but it sounds like something that's protecting
you from malware (or trying to, anyway).

I appreciate your replying to this. I 'think' I have Mozilla Firefox
because at one point I was going to use it but decided against it when
I found out that you have to add everything you use whereas IE comes
with everything. Also, if I remember correctly Firefox wanted you to
delete the present Operating System. There's no way I'm going to take
a blind leap of fate like that no matter how good its suppose to be.

I already have Spybot and A-squared for malware removal so
SpywareBlaster v3.51 would be overkill if it is for malware removal.

I guess I picked up Shockwave along the way but don't remember adding
it.

I just don't want to start haphazardly deleting programs which I may
need but if there is something there that I can delete I would like to
do so. After all it's just using up memory and serves no useful
purpose.

Hi. SpywareBlaster is an excellent companion program to Spywaregaurd and/or Threatfire. It is not overkill! Keep it.

operating system.

Firefox is a very popular, free, web browser. You don't have to add
anything to it if you don't want to.
I only use Internet Explorer when I have to.

Of course, Internet Explorere is a very fine web browser and you can
just dump Firefox.

I think it's a fair guess that over 100 million people use Firefox.

Perhaps I was mistaken or I read it wrong but in any case I don't need
two web browsers. My immediate problem is that my LG drive doesn't
seem to be visable to the computer although it shows its there on the
device manager and I can't get my Seagate Disk Wizard installed along
with a few other issues(see my other post, perhaps you can give me
some insights?)

If you read spybot's interface under immunisation it refers to spywareblaster
and
reccomends that you install it for it is much better at this funtion.

Not true. You have to download Java (www.java.com/getjava) for both
browsers. I think that many manufacturers preload Flash and Shockwave
for IE. The first time you hit a page that uses them in Firefox,
you'll be prompted to get them. It's painless.

delete the present Operating System.

Absolutely absurd. Nothing remotely like that happens.

Yes, you can delete any apps you have in add/remove.

Yes, you can delete any apps you have in add/remove.

Robert should be very careful not to follow this advice too literally.
Add/Remove Programs also contains Microsoft updates--hotfixes,
etc.--which should not be removed.
