Add/Remove Problems

Phil

I recently upgraded to WinXP (Home) from WinME. I have
some old programs that show up in the Add/Remove that I
can't seem to remove.

1) I've attempted to use TweakUI to remove unwanted
Add/Remove listings, but either version of TweakUI
doesn't show an Add/Remove tab in WinXP. I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling TweakUI and the program is
still missing that tab to edit my Add/Remove list.

2) I looked in Regedit under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Uninstall for the program to unlist, but they don't
show any of the programs I'm trying to remove. In fact,
if I make a backup of the Uninstall key then remove every
single line I find my Add/Remove list grows with MORE
entries under Control Panel.

I'm puzzled. Any ideas why TweakUI isn't showing an
Add/Remove tab, or that I can't unlist using Regedit?

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,

The XP version of XP doesn't offer that option, never has. Try the
procedures listed here:

Troubleshooting, Removing and/or Cleaning Add or Remove Programs
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_a.htm#addremove

If that doesn't apply nor help, what are the programs you are trying to
remove/uninstall? That said, they could be set as disabled, beings this is
an upgrade, check here:

The values that are removed from the Run key are transferred to the
following registry key after an upgrade:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\DisabledRunKeys

Each value that is under this key corresponds to a run item (program) that
had been disabled by Setup. The format for the values is the same as the
original values in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

When you restore these values by using the Restore Startup Programs option,
they are moved from the registry value in DisabledRunKeys back to the Run
key.

To do so, go to Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup/Restore Startup Programs
