active desktop question

I have no idea whether I have it or not.. but I accidently said yes to a
dialog box that asked if I wanted to save an image to my active desktop.
Immediately, the icons on my desktop flickered and the name in the caption
below them is no longer transparent. In other words,, they now are
surrounded by a blue box and the background wallpaper doesn't show thru like
before. When I right click on my desktop to find the active desktop
options,,, they are not there. When I did search in the files and folders
for anything with "active desktop" it came up empty. Anyone know what
happened? I hate the way my desktop looks now and have no idea if I have
mucked with anything.

I am not at all technical.. but am an experienced user. I am also not on
this newsgroup at all.. so if you have some advice,, please email me at
(e-mail address removed). I really appreciate it.
