accidently replaced file

I inadvertantly clicked on 'yes' to a prompt to replace a file with one I was
working on. Is there any way to retrieve the original document?

Maybe.

As usual, it depends on factors that you haven't yet told us. Like, what
kind of file? Word document? Excel spreadsheet? Photoshop picture?
WHAT??

How recently did you click "yes"? Seconds ago? Hours? Years?

Most important: What operating system? WinXP Pro SP3? or Vista Home Basic
x86? Linux?

In Vista, we can right-click on the file in Windows Explorer and then click
Restore previous versions...sometimes.

But in many cases, there's no easy way - or no way at all - to recover.
There may be a hard way, but that will depend on how valuable that file was
TO YOU.
