Accidentally Deleted Shared Documents

I made a new folder named "Shared Documents" under Documents and Settings,
and apparently this caused the original "Shared Documents" folder to change
it's name to plain Documents. So I thought if I deleted my newly created
"Shared Documents" folder, then the original "Shared Documents" folder would
rename itself back to "Shared Documents" from the plain "Documents" is now
was. But my fix didn't work, I'm now have the folder "Documents" that won't
let me rename it to it's correct name "Shared Documents". Confusing I know,
am sorry. Can anyone help this dain bramaged novice? Have tried rename,
move, everything except the right thing.

Try restarting your p.c then go to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users (if windows is on your C drive)
Make sure you are the only user logged on (if you use fast user switching)
then try renaming the folder from here.

If that doesn't work back up the data from the folder in needed (using the
above location), delete it from the above location then create it again with
the correct name.

What's the error you get when you are prevented from renaming?

Where exactly have you created the additional folder (named "Shared
Documents"). To reinstate the original name for the default "Shared
Documents" folder, check the Desktop.ini file in that folder. Its contents
should be as follows:

Example:

[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-21785
[FileSharingInformation]
ShortcutName=Shared Documents on SUPERCOMPUTER

Set the Hidden, Read-only attributes for the Desktop.ini file.

I created it in D & S All users. Originally it was D & s , All Users
Shared Documents. Under that was Sharerd Music, Shared videos, Shared
Pictures. Those remain, but Shared Documents Changed to Documents.

I used your example I copied it and created a desktop.ini file. I pasted
your example into the file , I substituted my computers name (VPN5951) in
place of " Supercomputer in your example.

The message I get is " This folder is required for windows to work properly,
it can not be moved or renamed".

I have fiddled with the sharing properties of the Document folder. Nothing
will allow me to rename it to the original name "Shared Documents"

When are you getting the error "This folder is required for windows to work
properly,
it can not be moved or renamed". While opening the folder, after altering
the Desktop.ini?

Also, have you set the RO, Hidden attributes for the Desktop.ini file?
