Access2K slow opening forms with back end on Win2000 Server

Hello all,
thanks in advance for any replies.
At work we have just changed from a Win98se peer to peer network to Win2K
server. The server runs DNS, DHCP and WINS. The Access2000 backend mdb file
is on the server machine with mde frontends on Win98se client machines. My
development mdb frontend is also on a Win98se client machine.
The mde frontends work well.
The problem is with the design database frontend. When I open a form in
designmode or normally, it takes about 3 minutes to open, but will instantly
change from normal to designmode but goes slow again from design to normal.
If I place a copy of the backend mdb onto the local 98se machine and link to
it, everything is fine.
Any clues?

Ed.

Just keep a table opened, and try minimizing it. Then your speed should be
ok.

In fact, your application should force, or keep a table open to the back end
at all times, and it will do absolute amazing things for your performance.

Also, check out that link to Tony's site that Cheryl listed....

Thank you both,
and thanks to Tony Toews for his web page on the subject.
It was the "track name auto correct" option in Tools|Options|General that
caused the slow down. I'll have to do some research to discover the
advantages of this feature....
