Access is denied

The Event Viewer ID # is 4373 for SP4 and 4355 for SP3.
We are updating several computers and found that some
updated O.K. and the others we get the error message. I
had to completly remove and re-install Windows 2000 in
order to install SP3 or SP4 without the error message. I
do not want to have to do this with all my other
workstations. Can you help us with this, Thanks

I have seen this and it appears to be access rights to the registry.

Are you familiar with the free tools from http://www.sysinternals.com? I
would recommend you download REGMON and run it during the upgrade to
determine what key might be causing the failure with ACCESS DENIED in the
REGMON log.

If we can narrow it down to the key, we could grant the rights needed to
install SP4.

We've seen it fail due to incorrect rights on the following keys:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent\Security

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services

Let me know if you can find the key that is giving you Access Denied during
the install.

Edward and Paul,

I'm having the exact same problem with SP4 with the same Event id # 4373.
And no "Access denied" in the REGMON log.

Did you come up with any solutions?

Regards,

Jaakko
