hi
this is ryan.i m using windows vista ultimate.few days ago, i used tuneup utilites 2009 to clean up my pc.it did a good job, like cleaning up my drives, registry, etc.
next day, when i came from my school i saw that it was hanged.but i didnt care and shut it down by clicking power button(it always happend and i always did the same task). but, then when i pressed the power button again, the computer took a long time to start and then i saw that im having a BLANK DESKTOP WITHOUT ANY TASKBAR(blank desktop means without any icons, wallpapers.it was fully black).then, suddenly Document appeared.i closed this folder and saw a blank area.no shortcuts worked.
then i restarted my pc and the same happend.i tried to restore my pc but there were no backups available. so i began to start working without desktop, taskbar and SOUND.but i was able to connect my modem, work in the internet and use all softwares i had.
now i entered task manager from windows security center.i saw a service like 'Browser' which was stopped.i tried to start the service but it said that the dependency services or group failed to start. so i entered the main services window by clicking 'Services' under Service tab. this service was named as Computer Browser there. i tried to start that one and the same message came. then i went to properties>Dependencies tab.i checked its dependents.there were some services and some other unknown icons.i want to know about this unknown icon that looks like a desktop pc.
can anyone please suggest me about the problem or tell me what that icon refers and how do i turn these on.please help me.i will wait for replies.

Hi Ryan,

A classic example of why you should never use a registry cleaner. It's very
obviously damaged your installation and removed necessary entries. First
thing I would do is load Vista in the non-gui mode and run rstrui.exe
(system restore) from the command prompt to go back to a date that preceeds
your use of that product. Failing that, I would check to see if the vendor
offers some way of undoing the damage it's done. Otherwise, you are likely
facing a reinstall and will need to rely on whatever recovery method your
manufacturer provides (be cautious with this, as some wipe a system clean
and you will lose any data currently stored on the system).

The icon that looks like a desktop monitor is Tuneup Utilities "1 Click
Maintenance" icon. If Tuneup Utilities caused the problem & you want to
undo what the program did:
1. Open Tuneup Utilities
2. Look for "Rescue Center" near the top right & click on it. It will then
show you a list of backups it has performed. The last one that ran should
be the first one listed. Make sure it's highlighted & click on "undo
changes".

I've been running Tuneup Utilities for several years and it has never caused
me any problems. I can't say the same for some of the other cleaners that I
had used previously.
