98 to 99% of CPU resources

Everyone,

I started having some problems with the slowness of my system about 2 weeks
ago and have finally figured out that it is related to iexplore.exe When
this program is active my task manager demonstrates that it is consuming 97
to 99 percent of CPU resources. I can kill the process and switch to
netscape 6.0 which does not demonstrate this problem

Can any of you give me a start in solving this problem.

Thanks,

Greg Ennis

Try shutting down startup programs by using the msconfig
utility. You can do this by typing msconfig in the "Run"
box, when you first turn your PC on. Click on
the "Startup" tab at the top. This page shows that all
programs that are running at startup have a box that is
checked. Some of these programs are not required at
startup, and take up your CPU resources. Internet Explorer
requires a lot of resources, and causes problems when
resources are low.

Normally, programs that are listed as "Program Files" can
be unchecked, except for your Antivirus program. Uncheck
any unneccessary startup programs, then click "Apply",
then OK. Restart the PC, and check your resources at
startup. Your resource # should be higher, and may help
eliminate problems with IE.
