2K/XP problems

Hi all!
I'm having a little problem with an xp/2k lan. The point is that my lan
is probably running correctly, as there is a little connection icon in
the lower right corner of both my computer screens, but when I go to
explorer, my network locations, complete network, microsoft windows
network, workgroup, I only see the name and files of the computer I'm
working on, and not the both computers who are "lanned". I disabled
firewalls, set up only the tcp/ip protocol, set the same subnetmask...
Already tried with a different subnetmask, but didn't work out. I don't
get it, I used to link the 2k with a millenium the same way, and that
went smoothly. Has anyone got any ideas what my problem is? And even
better, how to fix it :D ?

P.S. All password and user settings etc. should be OK, this is, I don't
use a lot of passwords, and only one user on each pc.

Non-Microsoft firewalls often do not disable properly - so rather than
disable them, uninstall them while working out your network issues; then
re-install them when the problem has been resolved.

Do some diagnosis. Look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from each computer. Read this article,
and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
