186 Hardware Security Control Logic Error

When I started my pc the other day, I got a message on the black screen
saying my "system has been tampered with .... turn off and then turn on your
computer". After a few attempts, I was able to start it after hitting F8. I
had difficulty starting my pc again the next time but it wouldn't turn off
right away. I used F8 again (not sure why this would work). The problem
seems to occur only with full shut down. Not restart.

Today, the message I got on the black screen before the Windows XP Home
startup was:
"186 Hardware Security Control Logic Error". It did continue on to the XP
startup.

1. What is the problem? and how can I fix it?

2. I still don't know how to back up my system with XP Home. I guess the
backup feature is only with XP Office. Where can I get instructions for
system backup for XP Home?

Thank you!
Wendy

I wonder, do you have little children running around?
In any case, when you are getting messages like that, it is best not to
depend on the backup supplied with XP (it is on the Home disk, but you may
have to load it manually).
An imaging software such as Acronis TrueImage will make a record of your
entire system, so if things go screwy in any regard whatsoever, you can get
everything back intact (provided you keep up with a backup schedule).
