SYSTEM HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH - windows won't start

When I started my pc the other day, I got a message on the black screen
saying my "system has been tampered with .... turn off and then turn on your
computer". After a few attempts, I was able to start it after hitting F8. I
had difficulty starting my pc again the next time but it wouldn't turn off
right away. I used F8 again (not sure why this would work). The problem
seems to occur only with full shut down. Not restart.

Today, the message I got on the black screen before the Windows XP Home
startup was:
"186 Hardware Security Control Logic Error". It did continue on to the XP
startup.

1. What is the problem? and how can I fix it?

2. I still don't know how to back up my system with XP Home. I guess the
backup feature is only with XP Office. Where can I get instructions for
system backup for XP Home?

Thank you!
Wendy

Not aware of this message as such, however it may fall in the catagory or
Malware / Spyware / Adware.

Download, Spybot Search and Destroy and / or Adaware - both are free
downlads and will remove scum from your PC.

Install them and run online updates, then power off and boot up in Safe
Mode. Run Spybot or Adware to identify and remove the scum.
