0x0000007E on boot - two different computers similar software

O

ofn01

I have a P4-3000 Desktop with XP Pro SP2 and my partner recently got herself
a Dell Inspiron 5160 Laptop with XP Home SP2.

On installing both systems - soon afterwards they give 0x0000007E blue
screens on booting up but reset themselves and then boot fine (though hers
did do it twice in a row once).

The similar software between the two that are invoked during startup are
1. Norton Antivirus 2002
2. Kerio personal firewall 2.1.4
3. NetBEUI installed from WinXP Pro disks (though uninstalled and removed
from startup but still the BSOD happens)

Both are fully up-to-date with Windows Update.
I have had boot logging on my machine switched on to try solve the problem
but when it happens the boot log is not written. I can't help but think this
can't mean its a hardware problem but actually a software problem???

Here is the bootlog for a successful boot on my machine showing all the
drivers that load:

Cheers for that - that site has come up a number of times in my web searches
but alas does not seem to offer any help (that I can see) for this odd
error - the strangeness is the difference between the two machines (totally
different hardware), yet the exact same problem soon after setting each
up...

The problem ended up being having Kerio 2.1.4 on the system.
Kerios fwdrv.sys was causing the problem (I worked this out by reading
around about fwdrv.sys after I saw it in the bootlog and wondered what it
was).

I have had Kerio off the system for a while and also taken it off the other
computer mentioned above, (replaced with sygate personal firewall).

So if you're having random 0x0000007E's on boot sometimes - check if you
have Kerio or indeed the fwdrv.sys file being loaded at boot.
