Zooming and panning across an image in PowerPoint 2007

I'm creating a presentation on the Spanish-American War. I have an excellent
world map that I'm using to illustrate the Spanish Empire in 1898 (it's a
10.4 mb .png file) that has great clarity even at a high zoom. I want to
zoom in on Spain, then pan across to Cuba, then pan back across the whole
world to the Philippines. I can get the zoom effect using grow/shrink, and I
can pan using motion paths, but the graphic is cutting off during the
slideshow so that it pans to nothing. The whole world is there when I'm
working with the slides, and I can view slides at 33% and see the entire
graphic, but in slideshow mode it pans out to the middle of the Atlantic and
then the world ends. Please help me find Cuba!

Thanks, but is there any way to do this without spending $100 for add-on
software? It seems like this should be possible with the standard PowerPoint
2007 program.
