Zonealarm

Can anyone get zonealarm to work after applying latest
security patches. As soon as the true vector fires up it
crashes my system (WinXP Home).

I have tested and it is definately ZA that is not
compatible with this OS when fully patched up. I am
starting to pick up browser hijackers and all sorts since
no firewall even with the XP one which is poo.

I did read somewhere that some patches put out did make
XP 'incompatible with 3rd party firewalls'. I find it
incomprehensible that this problemm could not have been
sorted out by now but I can't find a solution anywhere.

The patches that caused me trouble were Q817606, KB823559
& Q811493. I avoided applying these for ages but then I
applied a roll-up security patch which I think included
one or more of these and back came my crashing problem.

If I get a solution to this I will post it in as many
useful locations as I can to help others as I sure there
must be a lot of people in the same boat.

The fixes you mention were included in rollup KB826939
I installed this rollup with ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0.146 installed and have
upgraded ZA to 4.5.530 without issue.

Can you cite where your read that XP updates incapacitate 3rd party
FW? The only thing I have seen is indication that SP2 for XP will
enable the XP firewall.

Anything of value in the event logs after a crash?

what version of zonealarm are you using I have zonealarm
pro 4.0.146.29 and it works fine

Yep I found ZA wont work on XP home too. I now use Norton
which I recon has the edge anyhow.

Zone Alarm installed on home machine and 30+ office pcs. WinXP SP1 with ALL patches and updates

Can I ask which version you are using because I might try
it. If that fails I will go with Norton.
