Well it sounds like you are more of an average user and
not network inclined (don't take it as an insult, not
many people are), but I wouldn't worry. 169.XXX.XXX.XXX
is a local ip address....meaning that this is not an
external ip. In otherwords, it's coming from your pc and
not from the net (i.e. No hacker). It's a non-routable
IP number.
Also 192.168.1.XXX is also in the Private IP pool (ie.
These ip numbers can not be used for WAN purposes.)
Usually if XP can not find a DHCP server on start up and
has a LAN card installed, then it will assign itself a
169.XXX.XXX.XXX number.
Check out this Microsoft information. You may find it of
