Zip packages and XML files

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have a
question about zip packages and xml files. I was trying to follow one of the
basic XML tutorials on Microsoft’s site where it tells you to save an
ordinary .docx file as a zip file so you can open it and see the individual
components. However, when I open the zip package, although I can see the
separate files, I can’t open them. It gives me the error message: “This
file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.â€

I’ve tried using “Open with†and changing file associations, but neither
worked. Or maybe I didn’t associate the files with the right type.

In any case, there’s probably something really simple that I’m missing. Can
anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance for any information.

To open/edit the XML files you need an XML editor (such as oXygen, Cooktop,
etc.), Text Editor (such as Notepad) or browser.

Hi, Bob, thanks for your response. As it turns out, in order to open the
files I had to extract them first. Then I was able to associate them with
Internet Explorer and open them. The tutorial didn't say anything about
extracting them. Maybe I had to extract them because I was using Windows
Vista. When I tried to open them on Windows XP they opened right away
without having to extract them or associate them with a program.
