Word 2000: Spellcheck not worrkin...

Can anyone explain why I can’t get Microsoft Word 2000’s Spellcheck to work
now that I’ve re-installed it in Windows 7 ? Win. 7 Pro.

I click ‘Tools’ and then ‘AutoCorrect’, I have the first five check-boxes
checked, which includes ‘Replace text as you type’, but the ‘Automatically
use suggestions from the spelling checker’ check-box is greyed out.

I click ‘Tools’ and then ‘Options’ and of the ten option tabs, ‘Spelling &
Grammar’ is the only one greyed out.

This program has worked perfectly well in Win. 98, XP and (surprisingly)
Vista, I’ve tried using the compatibility mode for 98 and XP without any
success.

Is the correct language installed and applied to text?

I have clicked Tools> Language> English (UK)
The check box for 'Do not check spelling or grammar' is unchecked.
I clicked 'OK'.
Have I missed anything?

If you select the entire text (Ctrl-A), does it still come up as
English (UK)? There could be parts that are set to some other
language. (If it doesn't, choose English (UK) to so mark the whole
thing.)
