anyone know what will happen to my already exsisting folders already created
using Win Zip. Many Thanks,

Bonneville,

No significant changes as they both use the same algorithm for zipped
files.

Thanks For that, however, could you please advise wether it would then be
safe to uninstall WinZip after converting to XP zipp files.

Uninstalling WinZip will uninstall the program, it will not delete any zip files that you
created with WinZip, which you should be able to open with the Windows XP native ZIP
Folders feature. Personally though, I unregistered the dll file for the native Windows XP
ZIP Folders feature, and opted for WinZip. I like the idea of a ZIP file being a ZIP
file. I don't want Windows Explorer cluttered with ZIP Folders. I find the WinZip
interface easier and faster to work with than the Windows XP native ZIP Folders feature.
That's just my preference though. My favorite WinZip feature is being able to select a
group of files in Windows Explorer, right clicking them, then left clicking WinZip/Add to
Zip File/.

If you have a problem after uninstalling WinZip, try disabling the Zip Folder Feature,
then reboot, and enable the Zip Folder Feature again. How:

To disable ZIP files being shown as folders:

Click Start/Run, enter the string below, and click OK:

regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

You should receive a dialog that says "DllUnregisterServer in zipfldr.dll succeeded."

To restore the default behavior, simply do the same with this string:

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Again, you should receive an appropriate dialog.

Kelly it was something that I had pasted into notepad many moons ago, and forgot the
original source. When something is good, I pass it on. If I didn't give credit, I am
truly sorry...
