....or Zonalaram Anti-spyware program contained in ZA's internet security
suite, and Microsoftt's anti-spyware program now called "Windows Defender,"
anybody heard or read any tales of one catching something the other one
missed ?

All the time. If you read here enough you should know that no one program
catches everything.

I second mr.Urban's words.

Both programs has antispyware protection.
What you really need is a firewall and antivirus in real-time and updates.
And about the antispyware with real time ,it depends on you , on your online
activities. If you always practise "Safe Hex" you may not use real-time
antispyware but only Ad-Aware SE or SpyBot S&D to have second opinion on your
spyware/non-viral status.

That's the instance of tales ( I believe you need to try it first before
judging one )
we're as of the moment gathering signatures of some notorious spyware and
malware we have in town. So I would indulge you to try it as well.

Yes, this happens all the time as others have mentioned. That's why I run
three - Spybot, Ad-Aware and MSAS.

Hello RJK
May I add that, If you can be bothered to read through other posts, both
here and general, basic & newusers, some have had a few little probs with
moving from MSAS to the new beta Defender.
For the moment, I'm holding back and staying with MSAS + Adaware and Spybot.
Read what is available, then you can make your choice.

ooooh! I read a very large amount in NG's, but, I do admit that I haven't
spotted people having problems with MSAS beta 1 and/or Windows Defender beta
2.

I am not surprised you haven't spotted this because nobody has had any
such problems except antioch who has problems with all of MS products.
He/she is what people call MS sceptic (spelling as used in the UK)!

Thanks for that :)

Hello RJK
I see that ANON'S erroneous and unqualified remarks brought a smile to your
face.
It must make a change from you being at the butt-end of other's humour!

'post again when you aren't snorting coke.'

'To the OP: How about trying this again, in proper written English so that
more people will actually bother to read it and may actually understand it?'

'Oh, please don't make him do it again! Once was bad enough!'

'I don't think you can find a documented case of RJK using proper English.'

'Finally, watch your language please. These are family-oriented forums and
we prefer that you refrain from the use of foul language.'

QuoteIf you had done so, then there would not have been the need to ask such an
inane question.
This not the first time it has been pointed out to you that you have not
done your reading-up/homework/research properly, which is what I pointed out
to you.

Rant indeed it was - or more like verbal diarrhoea.

It has been pointed out quite a few times in newsgroups, that one piece of
software will catch something another has missed. That is why two or three
antispy programmes are recommended for a computer.
This subject was frequently under discussion in a dedicated MSAS community
group when beta1 first came out.

You said:

I said nothing about MSAS causing problems to others.
I said, ....some have had a few little probs with moving from MSAS to the
new beta Defender.

Some examples of 'a few little problems with moving from MSAS to the new
beta Defender' - Apologies to those I have quoted - hope you do not mind.
i installed it and immediately de-installed it because it kept mucking up my
monitor...

.....i'll stick with spybot

I have installed defender but it keeps saying it wants to update so I click
ok it updates and then after about 30 seconds it does it again. I have
noticed it is always the same update. Also when I open defender it says it
hasn't been updated for 28 days so I click check for updates and the icon in
the taskbar says its connecting then it says it is now up to date, but there
is no change with defender and this other update continues to install and
then install agian.
I have tried to uninstall then install again. I have installed it again with
it installed to carry out maintenance but non of this works.

What is wrong with it ?
any help is appreciated.
Cheers

A few days ago, I went to the M$ download URL and after validating windows
(my copy is legally bought) I downloaded and installed Windows Defender a
couple of days and the install went ok and without problems. I thought no
more about it until I just turned on my computer and noticed the Windows
Update shield in the system tray and I started installation which was an
update for Defender, but the update failed with the following message:

Updates were unable to be successfully installed

The following updates were not installed:

Definition Update: 1.13.1276.3 for BETA Windows Defender (KB892519)

When I tried to update through "About Windows Defender/Check for Update",
Windows tried to acquire any new updates but after a minute or so, I go the
following systray message:

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update 0x8240022. Wrong diskette
is in the drive. Insert %2 (Volume Serial Number: %3) into the drive

I know it's in BETA but I've already updated once when I first installed it,
so why can't I update now? Fast response needed and if the problem updating
continues, I will uninstall Defender and reinstall M$ Antispyware.

The above, I think, more than illustrates my reasons for staying with MSAS
for the time being.

RJK, I would like to thank you for helping to solve my insomnia - I just
switch on the computer, click on a newsgroup, 'right' click to 'find' and
enter RJK in the 'from' section, and read some of your ranting. It works
very quickly and works every time.

ANON
I am afraid that you have jumped to a few unfounded conclusions.
Have you not yourself spotted those that have had 'a few little problems'.
You seem to have some difficulty with reading and comprehension.
I did not say I have had a problem with either MSAS or Defender.
Others yes, me no.
RJK had not spotted them because he had not looked for them - just like you.
You have unfortunately accepted what that 'dipstick' has said, and like a
lemming, you jumped.
A case of not engaging brain before mouth(or fingers in your case).

I have never said that I have had problems with all of MS products and I
have never suggested that I have.
I have always used their products and will continue to do so.
I have tried the free OS's and office type programmes, but don't like them.
I have had the odd gripe regarding certain aspects/performances of one or
two MS products - but then who has not?
I have never, until today, been called an MS sceptic. So what people, apart
from you that is, have you seen calling me such. Cautious I am, with regard
to anything I am going to put on my computer. If you read cautious as
sceptic, then that is your problem.
I can think of some in these newsgroups who one might think as being
sceptics. But then they hate everything MS and BG in particular.
Can I take it that a 'no reply' from you is an apology?
