Spyware

I was wondering...can you have something like Windows Defender running, as
well as Spybot and a anti-spyware program that's part of an internet
security suite, all at the same time? Would they conflict with each other
like anti-virus programs? Or do they work in harmony with one catching
spyware the other's don't?

Usually no problems occur, but in a few cases even anti spyware programs may
conflict. It is recommended to use an additional AS scanner. This mean you
do not use the real-time protection of both applications.

You'll need to personally test your exact combination. However, you're on
the right track. No one single product is perfect. I recommend that PC users
scan/run various anti-spyware programs. You mentioned Spybot. As you know,
it doesn't offer real-time protection. However, it's a great scanner/removal
tool.

The Resident TeaTimer is a tool of Spybot-S&D which perpetually monitors the
processes called/initiated. It immediately detects known malicious processes
wanting to start and terminates them giving you some options, how to deal
with this process in the future. You can set TeaTimer to:

a.. be informed, when the process tries to start again
b.. automatically kill the process
c.. or generally allow the process to run
There is also an option to delete the file associated with this process.

In addition, TeaTimer detects when something wants to change some critical
registry keys. TeaTimer can protect you against such changes again giving
you an option: You can either Allow or Deny the change.

The TeaTimer is always running in the background.

The only way to know if you will have conflicts is to run the programs
together and see what happens. You could have no problems, you could have
simple problems or you could have a total system crash.
I run both Windows Defender and the paid version of AVG AntiSpy 7.5
together in real time with absolutely no conflicts whatsoever and no loss of
performance. I run Spybot S&D occasionally but I do not use the Tea Timer.
My AV is NOD32, which also contains antispyware protection.
