Justine

Hello,

My name is Xingpu, a PhD student in Journalism from Southern Illinois
University. I am doing an online survey on people's opinions about
Internet advertising and would like to invite a diversity of people to
participate. The more diverse, the better. That is why I am here.

Your views are very valuable and will contribute considerably to
academic research and the healthy development of the Internet. I would
greatly appreciate if you could spare some time to complete the brief
survey, posted at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=731861922752

As a "thank you" for completing the survey, all respondents will be
eligible for a prize drawing for one of twenty $10 gift cards.

Here is the link for the survey again:

(If it does not work, please copy and paste the link into your browser
window.)

Participation in the survey is voluntary. If you have any questions and
concerns, you can email me. Thank you for your time and support!

The tiime spent taking an on-line survey: 8-15 minutes

Here is what I think of spamming at any rate. Abuse complaints have been
and can be sent to:

mailto:[email protected] (they run the website referred to in the
spam)
mailto:[email protected] (idiots who don't listen to complaints,
but oh well.)

John,
If you would be right any research by surveying on the Internet would be
a criminal offense. The poster clearly stated the academic purpose of
the study, with has been okeyed by the competent academic office at
Southern Illinois University.

"Should you have any questions, you can contact me at (e-mail address removed) or
my advisor at (e-mail address removed). This project has been reviewed and
approved by the SIUC Human Subject Committee. Questions concerning your
rights as a participant in this study may be addressed to the Committee
Chairperson, Office of Research Development and Administration, SIUC, IL
62901-4709 Phone: 618-453-4533. Email: (e-mail address removed).>"

So, John, be so kind to participate and help the student.

Or are you against research, John ?

Cheers,
Frank

You're right Frank, I should indeed help the student, so I will do so by
carefully requoting his email addresses above.

Thanks for pointing out the totally altruistic aspect of the spa.. eh...
post.

He's not against research, but he likes to shoot first and ask
questions later. He thinks it's macho.

120 posts into 120 different newsgroups aint research, it's spam! I'd say
the acedemic office at SIU is anything other than competent if they allowed
this.

Impressive. You're right. Academic spam. Something new (?) But the
academic office cautioned the work not the "sampling" method, I'd guess.
