"You do not have the necessary permissions to use the..."

I am the creator of the database and have contacted my administrator to make
me a full administrator and I can not open my database. Each time that I do
it give me the error: "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the
'<file name>' object. Have your system administrator or the person who
created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you." In both
cases that would be me. I have created a workgroup that was fully
functioning until I restarted my computer. I did have multiple usernames and
groups, all of which worked. I can not find any reason or cause for this
error.

Did you join the workgroup you created? You didn't mention which version of
Access you're using, but if it's 2002/2003 you can check by opening Access
(dont' open any database) and clicking Tools - Security - Workgroup
Administrator. If you are joined to "system.mdw" (which is the default
workgroup file) AND your database was secured with another workgroup file,
then you'll get this error. If you're using 97/2000, then filesearch for
"wrkgadm.exe" and run it to find out which workgroup you're joined to.

The easiest way to open your database correctly is via a desktop shortcut
with this as the Target:

"Full path to MSAccess.exe" "Full path to your database" /wrkgrp "Full path
to your workgroup file"

This tells Access to use the workgroup file you specify, and you don't have
to join the workgroup.

By "full administrator", do you mean a Windows Admininstrator? This won't
have any effect on your Access database, BTW ..

Yes I am joined to system.mdw which is the correct workgroup. I did create
an admin user and on the report it shows that user in the admin and user
groups. I am only using it on this machine for now until I work out all of
these kinks. My user name and password was working fine. I am using 03

If this is the "standard" system.mdw, ie. the one that came with
Access, then you have gone about it incorrectly.

The first step in securing a database properly, is to create a *new*
workgroup file with a unique Workgroup Identifier (WID). If you just
modify the standard file, anyone with physical access to you PC can
easily break in to your "secured" database.

I suggest you obtain & follow a detailed list of written instructions;
for example, the Access Security FAQ - often referenced in this
newsgroup.
